The Better Part of Me...

Back from the Ledge
2004-11-10 @ 4:27 p.m.

There are some blessings that you take for granted. Like when a friend comes through for you in just the way you need him/her to. Not over the top no showy displays of affection or reassurance, but not below the bar either. Just right the perfect e-mail, the perfect phone call, the perfect gentle nudge to let you know that youre okay, youre still loveable, keep your chin up, everything will work out in the end, Im still here.

I try very hard not to take these things for granted because inevitably these are the things that draw me back from the ledge and make me human again. I want to say thank you in a thousand different ways but I know its always going to fall short of how much it really means to me. Especially since its usually the tiniest things that mean the most and fuss made about the small stuff just comes off sounding sarcastic.

But I am thankful. Every day. In so many different ways. Know that.

Sweet Darkness
By David Whyte

When your eyes are tired
The world is tired also.

When your vision has gone
No part of the world can find you.

Time to go into the dark
Where the night has eyes
To recognize its own.

There you can be sure
You are not beyond love.

The dark will be your womb tonight.

The night will give you a horizon
Further than you can see.

You must learn one thing.
The world was made to be free in.

Give up all the other worlds
Except the one to which you belong.

Sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet
confinement of your aloneness
to learn

anything or anyone
that does not bring you alive
is too small for you.
